Patience Roggensack gets her asterisk

She is now Wisconsin Chief Justice, but her right-wing donors had to change the rules to oust Shirley Abrahamson who had earned it the old-fashioned way: at the ballot box.

This week disgraced former politician Scott Jensen and his Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty ('WILL') group petitioned the Supreme Court (now conveniently headed by Patience Roggensack) to overturn a lower court decision to keep education policy making under the control of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (an elected position), rather than turning it over to the legislature and governor as 'WILL' had proposed.

Given how much Republicans are doing to hurt public education in our state, can the legislature and governor really be trusted to administer education policy?

Unfortunately, this is just the next step in the Republican agenda to eliminate public schools.; April 30, 2015 at 6:34 AM
my5cents said...: Well, it didn't long for them to oust Abrahamson. Yesterday I read where it would probably take a couple of months or so. I didn't really believe that and I was right. If they are not in charge, then they can't help Walker with the John Doe investigation can they. More than anything, they want to put that behind him before he formally announces his run for President.

Besides all of that, it is good to know in advance that your vote for someone at the polls may mean nothing if someone can pass a new law negating that vote. That part really sucks and it is enough to discourage people from voting in the first place.; April 30, 2015 at 8:19 AM

That would be the "Honorable Scott Jensen" to you! And let's show some respect, he's "a leader in the educational reform movement", according to the motion filed by the WILL attorneys...

Raven said...: Quick, before the balance of Justices on the Court changes again! Pass another amendment stating "No Justice who has previously served as Chief Justice may serve as Chief Justice again." That'll cancel any chance of adverse votes on the Court itself, either, right, GOP?
