Hearing 7/16 On Golf Course In Preserve Along Lake Michigan

The Town of Wilson in Sheboygan County will hold a public hearing on July 19th about the Kohler Co. proposal to turn a 247-acre nature preserve abutting Kohler Andrae State Park into another high-end golf course.

The proposal includes acquiring permission from the DNR to cut an access road through state park land and construct a maintenance building there.

A local citizens organization, Friends of the Black River Forest, is gathering and disseminating information about the project, and has begun an online petition opposing it.

On its website, The Friends of The Black River Forest makes this point:

The parcel of land includes a gorgeous stretch of Lake Michigan Shoreline, very rare dune network, old growth forest including majestic towering pines, and various wetlands including the Black River. All told a very diverse, environmentally sensitive parcel of land... one not found anywhere else on Earth! We believe that this land is a local treasure and important to the future of the Great Lakes and that it should be preserved. Here is an opportunity for the Kohler family to create a grand legacy for future generations.
