Walker #3 at WI DNR leaving for WI Revenue Department
Former state GOP legislator and sports equipment store owner Scott "Gundy" Gunderson, part of Scott Walker's chamber-of-commerce-friendly team which hates big government but loves its jobs, salaries and pensions, has found another green pasture. For the record, Gunderson was the DNR official who made sure a former campaign donor got light punishment for pollution violations tied to the spreading of excessive human waste on farm fields.

Friends & Colleagues,
Just a short note to let you all know that I will be starting a new position at Revenue starting Monday. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for the opportunity to work with all of you the past four years. It is amazing to see the dedication and passion that you bring to this agency and how much you care for our natural resources! When Cathy , Matt and I walked into GEF 2 in January of 2011 we walked in as a team, ready to work together to make the DNR the best agency in state government. And we did that, with your help. We reached out to you and you brought us your thoughts and ideas, on customer service, being more efficient and finding ways for staff and divisions to work together as One DNR!
I’m very proud of what we have accomplished and that I could play a small role in our successes. Raising our pheasant stocking numbers from 54,000 to 74,000 birds, increasing public access on stewardship properties, better relations with the eleven tribal nations, expanded maintenance and expansion of shooting ranges just to name a few.
You have all played a role in making me a better person and I will never forget that. Thank you for the last four years and I wish you and this agency nothing but the best!
God’s blessings to you!
Gundy

"When Cathy , Matt and I walked into GEF 2 in January of 2011 we walked in as a team, ready to work together to make the DNR the best agency in state government." What I remember is they showed up and didn't know they needed a pass card to enter the building because they refused to meet with the Doyle Administration about transitioning. They were locked out.
As the budget axe looms over the DNR somehow the image of rats deserting a sinking ship comes to mind. What a very convenient time for Mr. Gunderson to suddenly find a safer position.
For the rest of us, we need to rally around the DNR staff and the Natural Resources Board as if they were the Wisconsin Idea, because they are. We're all in this together!
Thank you for the "which hates big government but loves its jobs, salaries and pensions," because that brought a knowing smile to my face. It's what I think every time some politician says they hate DC but can't seem to wait to get there. HUH? I guess they don't really hate it that much after all, and they do love the jobs, salaries, the pensions, perks, and benefits.
What is he qualified to do at the Dept.of Revenue? When did DNR ever listen to anybody but Walker?
I don't think he's leaving because he failed to do what they wanted him to do. I think he will now be working his "magic" on Revenue.
My5cents: "Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die."
Another interesting point is that the number 2 man - Matt Maroney- cleaned out his office and left a few days after Gunderson. Rumor says he's going to Walkers presidential team and his replacement will be a shock. Very hush hush so far. People at GEF 2 confirm he's gone but absolutely WILL NOT speak of whats going down.
Not really confirmed, but his office is empty and may Supv. types confirm hes "gone".
