N. Carolina may reap Florence fecal flood

North Carolina banned consideration of climate change science when it came to development.

Now it looks like hog waste lagoons from farms like these

are going to bat last, The Washington Post reports:
...“cesspools the size of football fields” — pose one of the greatest perils. The North Carolina Pork Council says that lagoons holding hog feces and urine are supposed to safely absorb at least 19 inches of rain and that ahead of the storm many were prepared for more than 25 inches. But Florence has dumped that much or close in some areas.
On Monday afternoon, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality said it had received reports of discharges or overtopping of lagoons at seven locations. Four other lagoons had been inundated by floodwaters.
Brings to mind a certain Wisconsin climate-change denier and his state water lab which flooded right across the lake from his official mansion. Said the lab's blog:
It’s been more than 24 hours since a severe weather system stalled out over Dane County and dumped anywhere from 3.92 (Dane County Airport), to 11.63 (National Weather Service in Middleton) to an unconfirmed 15.33 inches of rain in Cross Plains...
Today, that water is still working its way downstream and our lake levels are rising. Lake Mendota isn’t just knocking at our back door, it’s let itself in...

300,000 gallon major manure spill on the Oneida Reservation last week ....and 5 inches of rain around GB today. That's not a problem, is it?
