More Alcohol Abuse Treatment A Good Idea...

But it's still a cop-out and dangerous public policy, Sen. Fitzgerald, to keep giving tickets only to first-time caught drunk drivers.

It is a total copout, especially a.) considering how serious the offense is, and b.) how the GOP is constantly harping about personal responsibility, and c.) how the GOP is constantly harping about the preciousness of human life.

Apparently, when it comes to serious offenses that may lead to grave bodily harm and loss of innocent life, we all must take personal responsibility-- unless you're a drunk driver in Wisconsin barreling across the backroads from the tavern that's 5 miles from your house in northern Wisconsin. Then we need to be more compassionate and treat your problems rather than give you jail time....

This story is so ludicrous and hypocritical on so many levels... I'll hand one thing to the GOP here in Wisconsin. they know what their base really wants: lax drunk driving laws. Pathetic drunk GOP.

Thank the Tavern League.

What's a cop out is a BAC limit above zero. If you want to stop drunk driving make it zero tolerance. The first offense should be $10,000. It's a poor public policy to expect the masses to understand their BAC level after drinking alcohol. One does not simply "go out for a drink," and only have one per hour to accommodate the livers detoxification pace. If the public doesn't want to do that, they all should get vehicles with armor and hope they don't regret their decision.
