DNR Again Underwhelms With Clean Air Tip

Really, DNR - - big state agency filled with experts - - this is all you've got for a year-end statement?

For the week of December 29, 2013:
"Gifts to return or exchange? Gathering them all together and taking care of them all in one trip will reduce your air emissions by reducing the vehicle miles traveled."
There is a pattern to the agency's default to self-parody.

Another example:
FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 1, 2012:"Happy Birthday America! No doubt about it, fireworks are a part of the festivities on the 4th of July. Yes they do cause air pollution, but the smoke is localized and disperses quickly causing little harm. Learn more"
By the way, there is genuinely substantive information elsewhere at the agency's clean air web site.

This map shows less-than-good levels of both ozone and particulate matter air pollution in four counties spread across the state  - - Kenosha, Grant, Eau Claire and Outagamie.

WOW...............that puts my mind at ease. I was going to have a rough start to 2014 until DNR shared that with me. Maybe next they can issue a statement that wolf hunting could be hazardous to dogs. They could issue that under Neal Kedzie's name.

I am reminded of the November tip from my 2013 Nature Conservancy calendar:

REPACKAGE YOUR PACKAGING Before you toss out that box, jar, container, or bag, think about what you could do with it instead.

Remember, when you're breathing in polluted air you're breathing Freedom.

For instance, an appliance carton could serve as a comfy nesting opportunity when a mega-bank erroneously forecloses on your house and sells off your belongings.

If you copy and paste the dnr post into Google you'd probably find the original source of this information. It sounds as if this is something they saw on some email and said in a Midwestern accent "oh that sounds nice hun I'll post that!"

It's not fair to call out the DNR. The experts aren't in the public affairs department, they work outside the office of management. Public affairs positions in government bodies are held by liberal art majors lacking a foundation in any subject matter.
