SS Badger Still Allowed to Dump Coal Ash Lake Michigan

The SS Badger will again steam this ferrying season between Manitowoc, WI and Ludington, MI and dump coal ash into Lake Michigan.

Having won several delays to finally stop the practice, I wouldn't wager too much money that a final, final, final 2015 deadline is enforced.

I have been writing about this issue for a long time, and there are a couple of dozen posts on the issue available through the blog index in the upper left face page corner. Here are a couple of examples, here and here.

A federal consent decree requires Lake Michigan Carferry Service, Inc. to cease the discharge of coal ash from the S.S. Badger at the end of the 2014 sailing season. If LMC fails to cease discharge from the Badger, the United States will have the right to seek stipulated penalties for violations of this court order and seek the court’s assistance to order compliance.
