Milwaukee Audience Sees Threatened Penokee Hills, Watershed
Nice program tonight at Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center by photojournalist and book author Joel Austin. He explained to an audience of about 150 people that the proposed GTac open-pit iron ore mine - - bigger than the monstrosity surrounding Hibbing, MN - - will demolish the Penokee range and contaminate numerous waterfalls, streams, lakes and water resources that have sustained the wild-rice growing Bad River Ojibwe for centuries.
