Iron Mining Execs Donated To Pro-Mine WI Politicians

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, (WDC), has documented campaign contributions to key state elected officials by individuals associated with a firm that wants to open a 20-mile-long open pit iron mine near Ashland.

A separate WDC posting explains the donors' relationships to the mining company and to each other.(Tip of the hat, Mike McCabe.)

Legislative changes to spur the mine, and others, began with an Assembly hearing last week.

Some of these politicos receiving donations - - see WDC records, below - - are supporters of  pro-mining legislation, including these Republicans: State Senate Leader Scott Fitzgerald, here; Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, here; Gov. Scott Walker, here, and Rep. Mark Honadel, here. Honadel is named in published reports as the author of the Assembly mining bill.

Jeffrey Plale, a former Democratic State Senator, was defeated in a September, 2010 primary by Chris Larson, a more liberal challenger who went on to win the seat.

Plale, who voted with Republicans on some budget and energy policy issues towards the end of his term, was hired by Gov. Walker in early 2011, and now serves as state railroad commissioner.

Shirl LaBarre, a Republican, lost a run for Assembly District 74, which includes the mining area.

Cline Mines, GTAC and all their corrupt officials can just ride out in the horse they rode in on. We don't want their stinking mine, they have been lying and cheating their way into northern WI, playing on the poor people. Well it wont work. Since last summer support for no mines has increased 10 fold.......there will be no mines. GET OUT. Thanks so much for posting these truth.
