Harley-Davidson + equity firm takeover = downsizing, layoffs

When was the last time you heard about a private equity firm - - those investment vehicles known for squeezing every dime of profit out of a takeover targeted company for the funds' high-dollar owners - - creating more jobs and new investment than jobs and assets eliminated?

!,000+ jobs lost in Madison when private equity cash fueled the takeover of Oscar Mayer's parent company, for example.

Remember the Golden Gurnsey Dairy bought by private equity investors, then closed in Waukesha, and Wausau Paper, too?

So look out, Milwaukee, perhaps the city's most iconic firm could be up for sale, and worse:
