You Want To Know Why SE Wisconsin Consistently Has Ultra-High Medical Care Costs?
Bruce Murphy has one explanation: hospital over-building.
And as I noted a couple of years ago, there are direct public costs associated with some of these projects, as the underutilized Aurora Hospital/Palace in a former farm field in Oconomowoc wouldn't be there without a public;y-subsidized Tax Incremental District's amenities on and surrounding the location.
And taxpayer-paid highway work, too.

Not only over building, but under utilization.
Expect this industry in Wisconsin to see a significant market correction starting next year.

There was good reason for this commission but alas it was dissolved. The healthcare lobbyists wins and the domination of Aurora Healthcare began. Meanwhile, Aurora's top executives like Donald Nester received a retirement package of $8.2 million in salary, bonus and other compensation. And this was announced after Aurora let go 175 jobs to control costs! It is indeed disturbing when excutives of nonprofit healthcare organizations receive such obscene compensation. Don't forget about Ed Howe's retirement compensation in. 2001. Nonprofit??? The word needs to be redefined.
