For The Record: Gambling Crime Predicted Before Casino Expansion Allowed

Whenever I see stories like this one - -

A former payroll specialist at Wheaton Franciscan Services has been charged with four felonies in which she is accused of embezzling more than $1 million to support a gambling habit, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint, released Monday, charges Janice M. Nieman, 49, with three counts of theft over $10,000 and one count of identity theft for a scheme that dates back to 2004. She admitted to the theft and told Glendale police she used much of the money to play the slots at Potawatomi Bingo Casino, the complaint says.
I am reminded that critics of casino expansion predicted it. I remember it because I worked in former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist's office when pro-gambling interests won the battle here and the slots went in.

More Wisconsin examples, here.

Food for thought, Kenosha?

You are 100% right. This is one issue where true liberals and true conservatives should stand together. I have been surprised and disappointed how few conservatives are standing against the Kenosha casino. (The only one I'm aware of is Julaine Appling of Wisconsin Family Action.) Gambling preys on the poor, undermines families and leads to political corruption.

Worth repeating. Perhaps even chanting.
