Boehner Channeled His Inner Dick Cheney

Remember Dick Cheney's F-bomb?

John Boehner, tsk, tsk.

House Speaker John Boehner couldn’t hold back when he spotted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the White House lobby last Friday. It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a "dictatorship" in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.
"Go f— yourself," Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.

Boehner has been having a difficult few weeks. And every time he turns around, he sees Eric Cantor slavering behind him.

I'm with Charlie Pierce, and wish we could hear our politicians talking like actual humans more often. I mean, we know they DO; but the courtier press thinks the American people are such fragile flowers that we couldn't possibly be exposed to it.

. . . . waiting for Rayguns to show up with exhortations to the Repubs to "Stay classy!"
The self-proclaimed "Voice of Reason on this blog", Rayguns oft reminds us liberals to watch our 'p's and 'q's and now our 'f*** you's.

No Boxer, I won't defend Boehner here. Although, you may feel that way, you can never let that verbiage come out of your mouth. It isn't classy at all and makes one sound like a high school kid.

When you fail to control yourself, your adversary knows that they are under your skin and that you can't handle the pressure. Which is my guess as to what happened here. Boehner has been getting his tail handed to him as late, and he obviously cracked.

A nice little smirk and a sarcastic "have a nice day" goes just as far in making a point.

I hope I don't disappoint you with my lack of hypocrisy.

@Rayguns:

You say you won't defend Boehner and then you go on to say, "Which is my guess as to what happened here. Boehner has been getting his tail handed to him as late, and he obviously cracked." It's not exactly a defense, but it sounds somewhat defensive, and it's certainly no condemnation of his act.
By my count of classless and unprofessional epithets hurled in public venues by elected officials, it's Republicans-2. Democrats--0.
It should be higher: Cheney's FU to Patrick Leahy was on the floor of the US Senate Chamber and uttered while Cheney was Vice President of the United States.
Oh, and for public apologies: Republicans-0 for 2. Rayguns-0 for who-knows-how-many as you never apologize for anything.
Your claim to be lacking in hypocrisy highlights your hypocrisy. Read my post again, this time reading the words. You tell us liberals to stay classy, when you, Judge Judy, determine that we have written or done something not up to your high standards. Failing to apply the same standards to your boys when they say/do something even more egregious is hypocrisy itself, my friend.

BTW: You could never disappoint me because I don't expect anything from you, including the above-mentioned apologies. Just because you SHOULD do something doesn't mean I expect you WILL.

I can't apologize for another persons actions, I can only make statements and observations about them. As I stated in my first response, Boehner's actions here are unacceptable.

I think you either need to read my original response again, or perhaps get someone to help you comprehend it.

Personally, I enjoy the pearl clutching when someone uses strong language.

I keep from using my normal speaking language when commenting here, because I am under the impression JR prefers it that way, and it's his joint. Other places, I speak like a normal adult does.

I am not particularly worried about RD telling me it makes me sound immature, because he says that no matter what I say. He's adorable that way.

The bigger thing I think is that Congressional members and the press that cover them try to pretend they DON'T talk that way, and that is how things are reported. Eff-bombs are just as typical there as anywhere else, and they get filtered out of the reporting.

nah, I don't buy it.

On this topic: The Professional Left podcast talks about the Politeness Police a little bit this week. Worth checking out, if you can tolerate bad words in the midst of intelligent conversation...

Rayguns, maybe you should get someone to help you comprehend your own response.

I don't know how I could have been any more clear when I said...

Let me count the ways (you could have been crystal clear):

I won't defend Boehner here.
[Not defending JB is NOT the same as condemning him, calling him out, saying he was WRONG, he screwed up, he really FU’d this time. ‘Won’t’ sounds like you could defend him, but chose not to. Why is Boehner’s behavior not indefensible?]

Although, you
[who do you mean by ‘you’? Me, as in Boxer? You, as in Rayguns? You, as in the general audience? Or you as in one, anyone, everyone, the world? It’s very unclear.]
may feel that way, you
[you, again]
can never let that verbiage come out of your
[and again]
mouth. It
[can’t be any less specific than ‘it’]
isn't classy at all
[Boehner not classy? Try telling that to his cocktail waitress.]
and makes one
[whoa! now you, Rayguns, really are in Non-Specificville!]
sound like a high school kid. [Wow—you, as in Rayguns, really know how to insult a guy. I bet you made Boehner cry!]

Seriously, man, you need to identify your pronoun subjects better. The above could have been anyone, everyone or no one. Or your attempt to muddy things up so that readers wouldn’t know whether you condemned the Boehner or not.

Try this:
Boehner’s words were wrong. He might speak that way in private, but saying it publicly to a colleague and then repeating himself, is classless, unprofessional and immature. Our elected officials must control themselves better while doing the public’s business on the public’s payroll and in the public eye. Have your meltdowns in the men’s bathroom.

"As I stated in my first response, Boehner's actions here are unacceptable."
The word unacceptable doesn’t appear anywhere in your first response. It appears for the first time in your second response, in the sentence above, which is also the very first time you actually condemn Boehner’s act. Now, was that so hard? I think we (well, you, mostly) made very good progress here today. Keep up the good work! : )
