WalkerCare Lost One Beneficiary, Another Still Enrolled
Hap tip to Robin Vos for helping us understand that Scott Suder retains his WalkerCare enrollment, but United Sportsmen is out:
The Legislature, not the Department of Natural Resources, is responsible for a $500,000 sporting heritage grant offered to a politically connected group and then rescinded after a public outcry, the Assembly’s top Republican said Friday.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, said former Rep. Scott Suder, who recently stepped down as majority leader to take a job with the Public Service Commission, took the lead in adding the grant to the 2013-15 state budget....
A DNR review panel last week recommended awarding the grant to the United Sportsmen of Wisconsin Foundation.
[DNR Secretary Cathy] Stepp sent a letter Friday to the group’s president, Andy Pantzlaff, notifying him that the grant had been withdrawn.
