Remember when Obama ruined the US space program?

Because Kenyan Marxists who hate America wanted another failure, right?

So I'm assuming this is a headline and story from The Onion. What, it's real? How?
Splashdown! Orion Spaceship Aces First Flight Test
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA's Orion deep-space capsule hit a historic peak during its first robotic test flight on Friday, and then splashed down into the Pacific Ocean for a picture-perfect ending.
On the way down, the cone-shaped spacecraft went through a "trial by fire" during which the heat of atmospheric re-entry rose as high as 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, or twice the heat of molten lava.
"There is your new spacecraft, America. ... Orion is back on Earth. America has driven a golden spike as it crosses a bridge into the future," NASA spokesman Rob Navias declared as the capsule hit the water, 275 miles west of Baja California. Recovery ships converged to bring Orion back to shore…
NASA and its commercial partners are designing Orion to take astronauts to a near-Earth asteroid in the 2020s, and to Mars and its moons in the 2030s. For that reason, NASA portrayed Friday's test flight as a first step toward deep-space exploration. The mission was known as Exploration Flight Test 1, or EFT-1.
"I would describe it as the beginning of the Mars era," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said on NASA TV.

Not inhabitable... ? said...

I've heard several reports about this program including one by a former NASA employee that described this as "an important step to finding a new 'home' for the human race when this planet is no longer inhabitable" REALLY!?

So now we are ready to dispose of this planet like an old toy?

So let's assume they do find another 'home' … who's going to get a ticket to make the trip? Billionaires?

As long as we have homeless families on this planet and crumbling infrastructure in our communities I say a space program is a waste of money.

I think this program is nothing more than congressional pork handout.

Are you confusing this with the movie "interstellar"

I'm okay with jettisoning the billionaires. Please send them to another planet so we can clean up this one.

No James I am not confusing Orion and NASA's long range goals with the movie 'interstellar". Here is at least one source that expounds the theory of finding a new home for mankind. When earth is uninhabitable.

I heard at least one commentator during the coverage of the Orion launch this past week say essentially the same thing on live TV.

And to my point about congressional pork here is at least one source for that position.

Again let's take care of the planet we are on. Let's take care of the humans that are alive today and trying to survive their current life. Let's try to rebuild the infrastructure that enables us all to live and work BEFORE we spend billions finding a new home for mankind.

And finally what is the role of God in the survival of earth and mankind. I'm not qualified to even start to answer that question except to say I'd rather trust god than feel comfortable with the greed of man driving the outcome.

i agree. I'd make some room for some of the politician too.
