The guy was being obnoxious and wouldn't let Sykes say anything.
He was an annoying caller.
No - - They had a conversation, but Charlie got annoyed when the guy said he, Charlie, wasn't looking at the big picture.
Sykes is becoming Belling.
Then the next caller tried to explain that as a rural resident, with cable access, public TV was useful, and Charlie said she was just another person looking for free stuff.
This from a guy operating on a government-granted broadcast license!
Romney might have "won" the debate (according to some) but he definitely lost a lot of political capitol when he made that smarmy remark about Big Bird. He sounded like a dictator when in fact, the US President relies on Congress to pass a budget before he can sign it. If Congress funds PBS is Romney going to refuse to sign the budget? Romney is full of empty sound bites and bluster. A definite gaffe and one that shows his true disdain for poor people, rural people and those of us who like to watch something with a little substance.
Poor Charlie, having a caller who 'wouldn't let" him say anything.
Charlie really should learn to be more agressive. His well-known gentleness and good breeding have no place in the rough and tumble world of right wing talk radio. If he wants to keep his job he'll have to really step up to the plate next time.
Sue, you pegged him perfectly!
Apparently Chuckles doesn't quite get the concepts of 'public airways' and 'free speech'.
Regardless of who makes the decision to eliminate public TV and radio, Mittens has shown us just how his Bain-acquired business experience would be borne out in the public sector: no difference! Public or private, he'd begin by firing people (or euphemistically, laying them off), including a popular and educational children's character. This should come as no surprise. Mittens said a few months ago that he 'liked firing people.' So why not kick it large scale and go national? That's an excellent way to bring down the unemployment figures.
I'll give the guy credit for some personal honesty, however inadvertent.
Here's a suggestion: whomever is president on Nov 22 this year could pardon Big Bird instead of a turkey.
James,
Perhaps we should forward that backwoods lady a link to Directv.com or Dish network if she can not get cable in her area.
Public TV has a license to print money with Sesame Street, Barney and the like. Try running commercials, sell advertising?
There is no reason that taxpayers should be funding this corporation.
Besides, aren't you guys the ones always complaining about corporate welfare?
RD elitism.
