Feds Tell Milwaukee Streetcar Funding Cannot Be Transferred To Other Purposes, And Can Be Withdrawn
I've seen the June 27th letter, but can't reproduce it, given the format, but federal transportation officials tell Milwaukee - - and this is not the first time this kind of message has been received - - that long-frozen transportation dollars Mayor Tom Barrett wants the Council to affirm in a streetcar funding plan this week a) cannot be used for another purpose, and b) can be withdrawn from Milwaukee by Congress.
So the burden is on Milwaukee constituents to tell Council members that the time to get the plan nailed down is now.
Here are the emails of two aldermen whose votes will be crucial to the plan's adoption:
Common Council Ald. Michael Murphy, the Finance Committee chair, and Council President Willie Hines - - whines@milwaukee.gov and mmurph@milwaukee.gov
