Story Hill, I-94 Cemeteries Now In Road-Builders' Sights

Get ready for the highway battle of your lives, as "freeway" planning edges closer to a great West side Milwaukee neighborhood - - and three cemeteries, with sacred grounds, that are in the way.

Not that the road-builders and the DOT haven't been laying in the weeds for years with these plans.

More, here.

You can bet there will be a battle to protect our neighborhood. The noise and air pollution for those who live on Story Hill or even a few blocks in is obscene. The only option they have from our perspective is keep it as it as is or tunnel underneath the sacred burial grounds of veterans. The plans are already there to cantilever the east and west freeways thus raising the entire structure much higher and causing a great deal more noise and air pollution from increased capacity. Mark Yelling once said, " What do those dead people care anyway about being dug up and placed somewhere else?" As everyone knows, we have one of the strongest and vocal opponents of "freeway" expansion living right here in the Storyhill neighborhood. Good luck DOT! You've got a hornet's nest to deal with and the queen bee ready to bring her swarm down on you.

Here's a final edit on my rant this morning. I should never try to comment so early in the morning.

You can bet there will be a battle to protect our neighborhood. The noise and air pollution for those who live on Story Hill or even a few blocks in is obscene. The only option they have from our perspective is to keep as is (rebuild it) or tunnel underneath the sacred burial grounds of veterans. The plans are already there to cantilever the east and west freeways and raising the entire structure higher and causing significantly more noise and air pollution from increased capacity and exposure. We all know that increased capacity works for a brief amount of time but then it's back to gridlock. We say no to the increased din of 24 hour traffic and constant engine braking from truckers. Mark Yelling once said, " What do those dead people care anyway about being dug up and placed somewhere else?" As everyone knows, we have one of the most vocal opponents of "freeway" expansion living right here in the Story Hill neighborhood. Good luck DOT! You've got a hornet's nest to deal with and the queen bee ready to bring her swarm down on you. Better figure out what you're going to do with that silly protected bluff. Can't imagine you trying to gouge our bluff for an exit ramp. Wait- THE RULE MAKER changed the rules. Time to get out my Stop Freeway Expansion sign and pass out more Recall Walker signs.
