Don't Miss This Measure Of Walker's Phony Train-Killing PR
There are times in politics when even the pros stumble over their own spinning, and Scott Walker's efforts to have it both ways in the Talgo-train debacle of his own creation is a sadly wonderful example.
From this Saturday Journal Sentinel story, note these laughable juxtapositions:
"Walker had said he wanted Talgo to stay in Milwaukee.
"'Governor-elect Walker's transition team reached out to Talgo in an effort to keep them in Wisconsin," Walker transition spokesman Cullen Werwie said in an e-mail."
OK. So let's stop there. He wants the company to stay in Milwaukee.
He's reaching out...so what comes next? More support, or a kick in the butt?
You decide.
"While he is disappointed that the company made the decision to leave..."Stop right there again: Notice that Walker is now blaming Talgo for leaving - - after he's cancelled its business, so let the name-calling begin...
"...the fact that the Madison-to-Milwaukee train line is dead is in the best interest of Wisconsin taxpayers. By reducing government spending - like Governor-elect Walker was able to do by successfully stopping this boondoggle - he is going to fulfill his campaign promise of ensuring Wisconsin has a business climate that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs."And "...reducing government spending?"
The train funding is simply moved to other states.
The whole Walker position and statement is bogus PR from beginning to end.
What's revealed is real Walker: disingenuous, two-faced, finger-pointing, victim-blaming...and still working off talking points to deflect attention and the subject from the consequences of his ideology, rhetoric and truculence.
The fact he is fleeing from is that even before taking office, he's 4,700 jobs in the hole.
But to hear Walker tell it, this is all all on Talgo a) for deciding to leave despite his pleas (sic) that it stay, and b) for being part of a "boondoggle."

He's annoyed. Sometimes the Dems do the right thing. His honeymoon was wrecked by the layoff at DOT, sparking the controversy the dominated the news.
Then he blamed LaHood for taking the money out of Wisconsin.
He's annoyed because he was hoping for a fantasy "quarterback sneak" when the new Congress is installed and he gets to keep the money. (or become the new Right hero by using it to cut the deficit).
Damn right he's annoyed. 'Being in power is really REALLY hard work' - George Bush.

Exactly, Bill. As I have said, Walker puts the "Dubya" in Wisconsin.
Someone else said we've got our own W now.
Sure, Walker "reached out to Talgo." And all of that high speed rail money is going to go to roads and highways right here in Wisconsin. Scotty told us so. Must be true.
Walker now owes us 254,700 jobs to make good on his campaign promise. Let's not forget to subtract the number correct number of teaching jobs and state government jobs he's plotting to kill and add THOSE to his total as well.
