Traffic fatalities on state roads are down this years for four-wheel vehicle drivers, but in other categories, the roads are far less safe than in 2009, state figures show.

James - you have been posting for this for awhile now and am still wondering what the point is.

Is there any significance to a one year trend?

Are you going to be surprised if the rate goes down in 2011?

Btw - there is a simple theory as to why this is occurring and the rates may in fact not improve.

Actually, the rate this year (97) is above the five-year average (93.something), so is statistically significant.

I got interested in the anecdotal reports, decided to follow the reporting.

I also find it interesting that the highways seem to be getting safer for motor vehicle drivers and the opposite for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists.

If you lose your curiosity about the world around you, hang it up.
