Canadian Tar Sand Oil Company Pays Fine For Killing 1,600 Ducks
Found guilty of criminal court, Syncrude (now there's a interesting name) is hit with a fine of nearly $3 million (US) for letting migrating 1.600 ducks die in a polluted tar sands mine waste pond.
The tar sands extraction that is tearing up Alberta is one of the most intensive and controversial resource extractions in world history, using huge amounts of energy and water to send thick oil for refining to the US in places like Superior, WI.
