While the SS system does help disabled and sick individuals who can not help themselves. How anyone could defend the current SS program or its management is beyond me.
It is a laughable program at best that makes promises to people that simply can not be met if we continue to go this route.
Bernie Madoff is in Prison for running this same type of system.
While the system will stay in place, it definitely needs an overhaul and some new ideas and direction.
Unfortunately, many people want to play "ostrich," stick their head in the sand. This type of "there is nothing to see here" attitude is what will cause SS to collapse on itself and take all the people who need the SS assistance along with them.
The fear mongering needs to stop and the system needs an overhaul for the betterment of the system, our country and to all of the people who will need to depend on SS in the future.
The Madoff parallel is ridiculous. But keep on making it.
How so? They are both "ponzi schemes" run to the benefit of the early contributors at the expense of those who are promised returns in the future. In both cases the promised returns can not and will not be met at returns and percentages promised.
Does SS help people? Of course, but that does not mean that it is not a pyramid scheme in the same style as Madoffs.
The debate here should be how to reform SS, not if it needs reform.
Do you believe the system needs reform, or is it fine just the way it is?
Ponzi schemes are intentional criminal enterprises.
Social Security is established by law.
Your argument, RD, is absurd.
You and Perry can now fall back on 'fixing' Social Security. Which is not what he has been saying until his first debate performance made him appear ridiculous.
