Walker Risks Recall Signs On Deer Stands, Bait Shops

I'm sure the pollsters and and pols working for Gov. 52% and the six recalled Republican State Senators are mining the Wednesday statement by Wisconsin's outdoors' enthusiasts who say they don't want fast-tracked iron mine permits issued where they hunt, fish. trap and camp in northern Wisconsin.

Walker has consistently claimed that the protesters  who rallied at the State Capitol were out-of-staters (rated "false" by PolitiFact) ordered in by labor bosses, and his PR machine demonized school teachers and snow plow operators and others who do difficult work in the public sector.

And whose absences, come fall and winter following layoffs, are going to be missed and noted just as the mechanics of recalling Walker move into a higher gear.

But forging ahead with eased permit reviews to fast-track mining in northern Wisconsin, where people hunt and fish, and to which tourists come with their dollars - - well, that might be a different story for Walker and his private-sector backers to manage.

The current industry-backed mining proposal would cap at 300 days the permit reviews for a mine that would last for decades, along with its impacts on groundwater streams, lakes forests and clean air.

Walker and the recalled Republican state senators who stood with him as collective bargaining was rolled back might find that alienating anglers and other outdoors' enthusiasts, with recalls already underway and promised for the Governor, is a no-win strategy.

Did the hook and bullets crowd donate the big money? Do they spend millions on issue ads? Then why would Scooter care? Big business (emphasis on big) comes first, last and always with these people.

While I agree with your premise, I'm a bit offended to the reference to the "hook and bullet" crowd. I'm from North of 8, own guns and fishing tackle and consider myself a progressive. Stereotypes are easy, but more often than not, offensive. It'd be akin to me labelling you as some effete, intellectual snob from Madison or Milwaukee.

I had seen the term in traditional media and was unaware that it was considered offensive. I won't use it again.

Thanks, I think it reads better. I appreciate it.
