WI GOP legislators blocking lead abatement plan

Let's be clear: what Walker and his legislative lieutenants engineered with their lame-duck power grabs is the illegitimate control of Wisconsin executive functions from Gov. Evers and Attorney General to continue a sham Walker third term regardless of the election.

Exhibit "A" today:

The GOP-run Joint Finance Committee blocking the Evers administration from applying for a federal grant to expand lead abatement in Wisconsin homes.

Leaders of the Joint Finance Committee told the health department Wednesday they are not granting the request for now because "an objection has been raised." A meeting will be scheduled to address the issue, they said. The committee must approve such Medicaid changes under a lame-duck law passed in December.
Rep. John Nygren, R-Marinette, and Sen. Alberta Darling, R-River Hills, the co-chairs of the committee, had the objection, Nathan Schwanz, Nygren's chief of staff, said Thursday.
These people would inhale a quarter of a billon dollars to build Robin Vos his Foxconn-interchanges-to-nowhere, and shower extra funding on their own staffs and high-priced private lawyers, but would cheap out on federal grants that could save children's lives.

Moving from tacky political hypocrisy to politically-inflicted child abuse.

This is completely unacceptable. Republicans who would go to this length to grasp political power deserve shaming, scorn and defeat in fair elections to remove this ugly gerrymandering scourge. We've had eight years of intentional, enforced mediocrity and mendacity, but blocking federal funds that could prevent children from being poisoned by lead is beyond the pale.
