Brave Republicans Help Approve Gay Marriage In NY State

Great story, and well-reported.

We could use a few such Republicans in Wisconsin, like New York Senator Mark J. Grisanti, a Republican from Buffalo and late supporter who said:

“I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.”

Meet Cuomo, the anti-Walker:

* Signs his bills in public

* Works together with members of the opposing party

* Realistic about labor:

While Cuomo was not willing to discuss religion with reporters today, he did respond to a question about the ongoing labor battle in Wisconsin: He said he takes a completely different approach than Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

“My approach has been we are in a tough place, this is a tough time -- let's all come together and we’ll [see] how we can work this out together,” Cuomo said.

The governor added: “I am a long-term supporter of the labor movement. I think it has done a good, both for its members and for the state. Do we need a recalibration here? Yes. Do we have a deficit? Certainly. Do we need an adjustment of wages, pension costs? There is no doubt.”
