Green Jobs Push After January 20th
Obama pledges Green Jobs Initiative. Transit has got to be paramount as the focal point of an urban revival.
Does anyone think this message, urgency and creativity has penetrated the upper reaches at the regional planning commission (SEWRPC)?

People want to keep their jobs, but they aren't buying your unproven green agenda.
I pray that you keep up your idocy and your religious zealotry .... science is evading you, and so will the electorate.
Green production and technology will drive the economy in the post-recession period and beyond.
This is a good thing, economically and environmentally.
I agree with Mr. Rowan however I feel that the Goverment should get investors NOT the government to do this. Remove the Capitol gains tax from Green investments you will see billions invested

I guess the studies indicating that the growing overuse of digital means of "communicating," are resulting in severe deterioration in common civility in public discourse. Apparently true, people like this have also been shown to suffer from measurable underdevelopment of and other related disfunction with their frontal cortex.

This was the topic on WPR with either Joy Cardin or Kathleen Dunn this morning. Not making this up.
To Non Q: I am interested in how the topic on this blog posting comment section moved from green jobs to blue language.
I've been trying to figure out just what particular part of this, "green," job growth I might qualify for. Seems that many and I will guess most of the "green" jobs are actually "blue collar," jobs. Insulating buildings and erecting transmission lines to upgrade the grid, building commuter rail or molding wind turbine blades is all blue collar work. Installing newer generations of electrical equipment, controllers and monitoring systems is higher tech blue collar work as is some manufacturing of all these more efficient components. "Green," is simply the philosophy, the bulk of the actual work is always going to be "blue," collar right down to weeding local gardens.
The blue language, I believe, stems in part from the misunderstanding and fear of changes, causing the anger or frustration, further limiting vision and imagination in solving the problems necessary to be addressed for all of us to be able to live and to sustain the planet we are inhabiting. Keep up the great postings.

I saw where SuperSteel is closing a plant in NY state and laying off some workers in Milwaukee. Maybe that will turn around after 1/20.
I didn't even know SuperSteel made rail cars for transit systems. Sound like green jobs to me.
Super Steel supplied cars to the NY subway system, and with local ownership here (Luber), had always been considered an option should Milwaukee create a local rail system.
A system no one will use but everyone will pay for.
The white Elephant KRM will be running empty do we need more trains to do the same?
Until Obama forces folks out of the cars buses and trains will not work and gas projected to go to $1.00 do not expect too many to give up driving
To Colt; I think the KRM is going to happen because after years of planning, the business community in the region is uniting around it. They understand the need and the value it will add to development. It has less to do w/Obama and more to do with local business development, including its attraction for commuting workers.

If I took the train from Raine to Milwaukee leave what 2+ hours earlier then if I drove. I have to get to the train get to Milwaukee then take a bus and/or walk from that stop.
Few will.
I love trains for long range freight transport (+100 MI) but for moving people it sucks.
And what jobs are there in Milwaukee or Racine (and Less to come thanks to Jim "I can think of another tax" Doyle.)
Inter-county commuters throughout the three-county area will use the line to get to their jobs.
Once the line opens to Milwaukee, there will be a push to extend it west to Brookfield or downtown Waukesha, and eventually there will be a line coming east from Madison.
Trust me: this is happening.
Why repeat AMTRACK? that at least world between the cities listed but commuter rail not happening.
Better yet if we get stuck with a full two terms of Obama we will see movement if the GOP comes back (Like I think they will) in 2010 not going to go down.
Court Fights, Monkey Wenching, and God knows what two year will not see this done.
