The Assembly's Mining Mess Belongs To Jeff Fitzgerald
Wisconsin State Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, (R-Horicon), deserves all the blame for his body's 'writing' and approving - - with all its flaws - - a bill to enable the accelerated digging of an iron ore mine in Northern Wisconsin that is:
1. Dead on arrival at the State Senate, though Jeff's brother Scott says he'll "hustle" - - great choice of Freudian verbs, by the way - - to get something better [Sic] approved by March.
2. Under review by federal officials who want to know if the process wrongfully excluded Chippewa people who have treaty rights protecting their land and water.
3. Out of sync with the Wisconsin Constitution's water preservation mandate known as the Public Trust Doctrine, which the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources explains in detail.
All of these issues are going to slow down the entire process and cost the taxpayers more money.
The Speaker might want to slow down his financially-struggling campaign for US Senate and pay a little more attention to the people of the state - - including the Bad River Band - - and the state treasury he's so willing to squander
