Walker Budget Filled With Policy, Spin, Local Governance Decimation

Put all this under "Is Our Children Learning?"

Walker will make it difficult for private schools to do the job, but easier in the private schools, according to his budget.

School choice caps in Milwaukee are eliminated, income eligibility limitations for the program phased out and all teacher residency rules erased.

This is under a section in the budget document - - from page 26 in a full pdf copy which I am reading- - called "Protect Our Local Schools."

Also gone: the 180-day school year; districts still have minimum hour rules to meet.

On page 32 - - eliminates state-funded mandates requiring school districts to provide a variety of programs - - for everything from Advance Placement to drug and alcohol intervention and prevention to language training for Southeast Asian kids, to unspecified science, math, technology and engineering instruction.
