Kennan Forum This Year: Great Topic - - Water - - But Wisconsin/Great Lakes Speakers Shut Out

I am a big fan of the annual George F. Kennan Forum, and this year's gathering on September 29th - - registration details here - - with water as the subject couldn't be more timely.

But here we are on the shoreline of the world's largest supply of fresh surface water - - the Great Lakes - - , with experts galore across an eight-state region - - and none of the speakers has Great Lakes water conservation or management as a specialization.

This isn't a complaint from a 'homer.' Just an observation that there is a wealth of expertise about the Great Lakes from Milwaukee to Chicago to Buffalo and certainly into Canada - - the area covered by the unique water management arrangement known as the Great Lakes Compact - - and that perspective would have added substantially to an important discussion.

I agree with your message about Kennan Forum, though I'm impressed with State Dept. participation.
Regional water experts will be at the Second Annual Great Lakes Water Conservation Conference in Madison October 18-19. Aimed primarily at brewers and cheesemakers as far as audience, yet speakers deal with broad issues and bring wealth of resources.
