Wisconsin Republicans Stand Up for Indian Mascots

The GOP, embracing stereotypes, becomes one.

Apparently, Russ Decker wants to make bigotry a bi-partisan disgrace, as the afore-linked Journal Sentinel story carries this line:

"The bill may face difficulty in the Senate, which like the Assembly is controlled by Democrats. Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker (D-Weston) said he was "not really focused" on it and noted the legislative session is winding down."

James - did you use your editorial pen on my prior post to this thread?

I do not remember there being anything out of bounds in my posting, but obviously you may have.

Here is roughly what I posted earlier . . .

What is a disgrace is the Democrats in the Wisconsin Assembly wasting their time putting up for a vote an inane and politically correct bill such as this.

Of course there is a symmetry to these legislators and this bill.

I am a Native I have no issues with Mascots. Why should they? That/s right in their eyes we are children that must be taken care off.

I am Native, and I have many many issues with mascots. That being said, take all anecdotal evidence such as my statement and the previous poster's statement with a grain of salt. Opponents of this bill cling to individual, self identified, "Natives" who claim that mascots are not problematic while ignoring the fact that the American Psychological Association, the American Sociological Association, the National Association of Social Workers, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and every tribal government in the state condemn the use of Indian mascots. Time spent on a bill supported by academic research and by the consensus of tribal governments can't be a waste.
