More Secret Deal-Making - - This Time Over UW-Madison 'Independence'

Bad enough that Scott Walker and legislative Republicans used secret caucuses to hammer out their anti-union, anti-urban budget repair bill...but now we're learning that UW-Madison chancellor Biddy Martin, in a self-interested power grab, cut a deal with Walker to separate the school from the UW system and turn it into an upper-income, private-sector driven institution.

It's a complete violation of the Wisconsin Idea, upon which the UW was founded.

Martin should be sent packing. She has a boss - - the UW Board of Regents - - and is not a free agent.

It doesn't seem as if she would have the power to do that.

Bullshit. The Madison campus cannot survive in an increasingly competitive global environment without structural change.
