Scott Walker, Friend Of Higher Ed. Trust Him?
From the same person who declared his 2011 budget-repair changes "modest" - - Act 10, hello - -comes a pledge to the UW system against permanent cuts.
Fool me once...
A forum, news site and archive begun in February, 2007 about politics and the environment in Wisconsin. And elsewhere.
From the same person who declared his 2011 budget-repair changes "modest" - - Act 10, hello - -comes a pledge to the UW system against permanent cuts.

What brought that on? Is he feeling guilty? Nah...
Something else is motivating him.
Good call. This seems to be a total misdirection play that's going to mask something bad that's about to happen (Walkergate? More job losses?). Much like how you knew the premature release of cooked-up, unverified jobs numbers Thursday morning was a cover for the horrible official jobs numbers that came out later in the day.
And with the annoucement of today's "0% increase budgets", we have another shoe dropping. If you thought Act 10 was merely a one-time deal and that the money would be provided once the "tools" were put in place...SUCKER!!!
The tools are rusty now Walker-how will you balance the budget after giving away all those tax breaks with nothing to show for it.
@Jake- there are many Republicons who think the tools need to be further implemented. Many without a swallow think that just because the public employee's wages and benefits were cut once does not preclude another round.
I agree, I think a 25% contribution towards healthcare and pension is much more appropriate.
Anon 9:41pm- Hey, if those dimwits like the current cycle of lower property values and higher property tax rates that result from Act 10 and other budget cuts, then continue on. A lot of the hurt is coming to GOP places that support Walker and are addicted to the 9 hours of hate every weekday on 1130 and 620.
So to them I shrug and say "You wanted Fitzwalkerstan, you GOT IT."
Who has a higher property taxes? Most WI residents rec'd lower tax bills this year.
I guess you are just continuing your parade of misinformation in hopes that people still believe the garbage your side spews.
Didn't the Democrat party learn anything on June 6th?
I pay property taxes on 4 Wisconsin properties ranging from $165,000 in value to $250,000.
Yes, all of the properties sported tax decreases for year 2011, ranging from -$98.00 to $156.00. BFD. In every case, the decrease amounted to decreases in school and technical school taxes. I do not support giving taxpayer money to large (many of them out-of-state) corporations to create jobs that fail to materialize , and if they do, are minimum wage jobs that aren't family-supporting. And I really reject giving those same tax breaks at the expense of educating our children and grandchildren. The gutting of Wisconsin's educational system won't show up for decades, when the Fitzwalkers are long gone. Hopefully to the Big House.
