Lyin' Ryan

Even if Ryan drops the claim, the damage is done. From PolitiFact, right after Ryan's speech:

Says President Barack Obama broke his promise to keep a Wisconsin GM plant from closing.

Paul Ryan on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 in a speech at the Republican National Convention in Tampa

Did Barack Obama break a promise to keep GM plant open?

...Our rating

Ryan said Obama broke his promise to keep a Wisconsin GM plant from closing. But we don't see evidence he explicitly made such a promise -- and more importantly, the Janesville plant shut down before he took office.

We rate Ryan's statement False.

I know someone who was working at the plant when Obama was in office.

I rate the politifact rating "False."

Actually Obama never specifically promised to keep the Janesville plant open, but left it up to the listeners to make that connection. In a similar way, Ryan never specially said Obama lied about wanting to, or being able to keep the plant open. He is quite accurate in saying that Obama did not keep the plant open, and that Obama said that a responsible government would have kept it open.

Please keep making these kinds of statements as your tactic is working very well. We need more stories on how Ryan is going to push old ladies in wheel chairs off of cliffs and how Romney is going to destroy the earth. Perhaps even write a few tales of how well we are doing under Obama and how great his policies have been at reducing the deficit, producing abundant and cheap energy, and providing us all with free health care.

Reagan's Disciple is a bigger liar than Paul Ryan

From the article in James' prior post:

"The plant was effectively shut down on Dec. 23, 2008, when GM ceased production of SUVs there and laid off 1,200 workers. (Several dozen workers stayed on another four months to finish an order of small- to medium-duty trucks for Isuzu Motors.)"

RD, your friend working there to finish a contract job doesn't mean the plant wasn't closed.

I have my issues with Politifact, but this time they are correct.

The union begged Paul Ryan to help them get some money to stay open until the stimulus kicked in. He refused and city fathers didn't want to work with Feingold. Weird.
