Strong Editorial For More WI Transit

The Journal Sentinel correctly calls for greater transit spending and a careful re-thinking of state transportation spending.

And kudos to the grassroots support for transit expansion - - from bus system advocates to Milwaukee business leaders - - as the newspaper editorial concludes.

Transit is key, well-maintained local roads are key, some new highway construction is key. They are all critical but they need to be done in the right balance.
But it isn't at all clear that GOP Friends of the Road-Builders running the Joint Finance Committee on Scott Walker's behalf have any interest in following along.

It's wisconsin, the one big city has no traffic, plenty of parking, and already offers a nice park and ride system for commuters. It has no use for what the light rail or bus builders are

Let me guess, you support green hybrid buses. You dont use public transport yourself, but you'd rather have these gas guzzling behemoths empty just so you feel good. I would suspect you drive a prius.

And because of that, Wisconsin is one of those corners of the country where it's considered acceptable to drive to and from a bar. And thus the high rate of DUI crashes, deaths, arrests.

And also, it's a part of the world where the elderly hold on to their cars well past the day they become unfit to drive.

And it's a place where the lack of a car means you can't get a job to save up for the car you need to get to a job...

Insane. Unjust. And holding Wisconsin backwards. This is why you can't walk through a restaurant in New England without hearing Wisconsin accents nowadays.
