Frustrated Reaper still sees insufficiencies in COVID toll

The reader who risks bafflement at the words of Ron Johnson -

- might be freshly dumfounded that Johnson, despite 8,300 Wisconsin fatal COVID illnesses and more than 600,000 in the US, opposes vaccine mandates unless there were some "incredibly deadly virus" out there -

"No, not unless there's some incredibly deadly disease. I mean, much higher infection-fatality rates than we have with COVID.

"We don't know the final infection-fatality rate but right now it's looking like it's not going to be much more than double a bad season of flu."

- but the reader navigating Johnson's collapsing circuitry may be less stupefied knowing that he had already shrugged off a possible US death toll from COVID of more than 11 million:

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson downplays possibility millions could die from COVID-19

“Getting coronavirus is not a death sentence except for maybe no more than 3.4 percent of our population"

We don't shut down our economy because tens of thousands of people die on the highways. It's a risk we accept so we can move about. We don't shut down our economies because tens of thousands of people die from the common flu."

RoJo has a few major character flaws which will help drive him into the arms of DT. 1) Chronic liar 2) Extremely stupid 3) Arrogant 4) Narcissist . Unfortunately someone who has these character traits is often capable of tricking others into thinking he is a smart business man who cares about them. In my opinion this guy is not capable of caring about anything but himself.

Back in 2008 when I heard then-candidate Barack Obama talk about his dying mother spending her last days on the phone with her insurance company trying to get her medical bills covered I thought, "Here is the guy who will give us national health insurance."

Two years later when the Tea Party astro-turfers were in full rampage mode I heard part of a speech Ron Johnson gave at the WI GOP convention where he spoke movingly and with gratitude about his daughters congenital heart condition and the doctors who were able to fix it. I disagreed with his conclusion -- that "Obamacare" would cut off the research funding that makes such medical miracles possible -- but I thought there might be some hope for him. I mean, surely as the parent of a child with a chronic illness he could sympathize with other parents of sick children, understand their desperation and help to provide some relief?

Now I realize I was looking at it the wrong way. Ron Johnson never sees anything except from his own perspective, and judges everything only according to how good or bad it is for him, Ron Johnson. He cares about his daughter only because she's *his* daughter, and cared about the doctors and advanced medical procedures only because they fixed *his* child. Other parents, other people, can just go to Hell as far as RoJo is concerned. I'm starting to wonder who wrote that speech for him to make such a heartless narcissist seem like a caring father and concerned human being. I wonder if they ran it by a focus group; if so I'll bet "political newcomer" played well too.

2 paragraphs below from Ruth Conniff commentary worth reading over at the WI Examiner

I was walking my dog the other day when I bumped into a neighbor who happens to be a Republican operative. “Your dog could beat Ron Johnson,” he told me, apropos of nothing. State Republicans are dying to run a more presentable candidate than Johnson for Senate, as an ever-expanding field of eager Democratic challengers chomps at the bit.

But Johnson won’t let them. He insists there’s no reason anyone else in his party should get a head start on fundraising or building statewide name recognition. Not willing to make up his mind, he just goes on making news every week, calling climate change B.S., warning people about the dangers of getting the COVID vaccine and voting to deny Wisconsinites infrastructure funds and needed pandemic relief.

What a continuing embarrassment to our state. Fortunately, his followers here are a minority.

I remember when Rojo and Paul Ryan were on TV sitting and acting so forlorn about the possibility of not being reelected. It all looked so fake. The looks on their face are forever burned in my memory. I was thinking Yeh! Right! I knew then the fix was in. Miraculously!!! They won!!! How about that!!! I can't stand any of the Republicons in this state or on the national scene. I really dislike the state of Wisconsin now. I have spent my 65 yrs. here and I am so disheartened by what has happened to it. I really want to move.

These politicians say so much stupid stuff I can't believe they are adults. I guess if it came down to it I could say really stupid garbage if it meant a lot of money in my pockets also.

I agree Ron Johnson is a total embarrassment to this state and this country along with Vos and Fitzgerald. Don't even bring up the former governor's name. Why can't people see through the cons these people run? They care for no one but themselves and their rich contributors.
