Walker And The DNR: You Break It, You Own It
Let's use the Iraq debacle to make a political analogy:
Remember when then-Secretary of State Colin Powell warned his boss, President George W. Bush against invading Iraq, saying "If you break it, you own it?"
For many people, the DNR is the agency they love to hate - - from pier owners to deer hunters to developers looking to turn a pond into a parking lot.
Current DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp comes right out of that DNR-bashing mode.
So if Walker is allowed to remake the DNR - - read a leaked draft of his plan here - - into a so-called "charter" agency of his own, micro-managed creation - - and it doesn't work perfectly, and if the bureaucracy still doesn't dance to 1,000 different tunes across all the regions precisely as the complainers want - - it becomes the new owner's fault - - Walker's.
He's really earning this image:
