Midwest High Speed Rail Association Shows Big Picture

The Milwaukee-Madison line is an integral piece of a whole: that's why the federal government has agreed to fund its construction 100%, and to pick up 90% of its annual operating costs. (sorry this page displays like this. I can't do better, it seems).

Integrated Railroad Network

The Midwest High Speed Rail Association advocates for an integrated railroad network serving more than 40 million people in 10 states by 2040.
This network would combine 220-mph bullet trains with modernized Amtrak service and strong connections to local transit.
Together, these projects will revolutionize how we travel, and create more than 1.1 million jobs across the region.
Our goals are to:
  • Build four 220-mph bullet train routes to put 35 million people within 3 hours of Chicago, with the first demonstration route completed by 2020.
  • Modernize existing Amtrak service by 2020 to deliver convenient and comfortable service at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. This means new clean-diesel locomotives and train cars along with updated track, signals and stations.
  • Create strong connections to local transit at modernized railroad stations.
