Dan Finley Gets New Job On Light Rail Line In LA

Ah, the ironies:

Dan Finley, the former Waukesha County Executive who vetoed light rail that would have principally served Milwaukee County, and also Waukesha County to a lesser degree, has been hired to run a museum in Los Angeles.

On a light rail line.

LA Metro's Gold Line - - rave reviews here - - serves museum-goers at a nearby station.

omigawd. What a coincidence. Did you know I once rode a train? A-maz-ing. Or is it ironic?

James, do you pay attention to rumors?
I don't and I have this information.
Dan showed up to Waukesha Dems meeting years ago and said "How do I get elected?".
He got his answer and immediately joined the Republican party.
Perhaps he understands politics and political pressure better than all of us.

Rowen - that has to be right up there as one of the most pathetic stretches in logic on your part.

And that is saying something.

Hey James - I know you don't do anything without there being some kind of 'justice' involved.

So was justice is there with your obsession with choo chho trains?

I know you can't play the race card since your various rail plans don't do squat for minoritites, unless the plan is for all the porters being colored like in the good old days.

I'm continually fascinated by the use of baby talk from the right, whether on the Internet, or talk radio:

"Choo-choo" trains, or "Poop" in sewerage overflows.

What's up with that?

Here's a coincidence for you, James Wigderson: You once worked for State Sen. Mary Lazich. She once was a Waukesha County Board Supervisor, right during the time of said killing of light rail. Is that three degrees of opposition? Or -3 degrees? Or not really any separation between you say-no-to-everything progressive types?

BTW: The fact -- if it is one -- that you once rode a train is not tangential to James Rowen's remarks, as you well know. The irony lies in the situation of Dan Finley's now benefitting personally and professionally from the very thing he so vehemently opposed. For all we know, he takes that light rail line from home to work everyday. How convenient if he can hop off right in front of his museum.

I briefly worked for Mary's campaign in the special election Republican Primary to replace Lynn Adelman. I don't even know Mary's position on trains back then. I like to think I had that kind of influence, but I kinda doubt it.

I'll try to make a closer coincidence/irony/whatever for you. I once rode the train at the Milwaukee County Zoo. It's true. There are even photos of me.

"For all we know, he takes that light rail line from home to work everyday." For all we know he takes a private helicopter home everyday. So what?

Hey friends - greetings from SoCal

Your friends and fellow progressives in LA would love to learn more about this Daniel Finley, who from his resume doesn't sound as if he's ever left Wisconsin, even for a vacation. Do we have reason to be worried? If so, drop a line or post a note to the Los Angeles Times' Culture Monster blog, which has him profiled for his new gig. We'll all look forward to hearing from you.

As to the light rail comment, the Autry's Southwest Museum site has been shuttered, due to budget issues (and an on-going dispute with area neighbors), although (as rightly pointed out here) there is a light rail stop at the base of the hill.

Finley will be based out of the Autry in Griffith Park, which is in the middle of a maze of freeways, so rest assured, his apparent world-view will remain comfortably uninterrupted if he thinks that trains are something that only 'socialists' are supposed to like.

I am sad to hear that he will likely neglect to revive efforts to attract more people to the museums by mass transit.

As usual Rowen doesn't know his backside from a void in the earth

None of you right-wingers recognize the irony of someone who OPPOSED light rail now making a living FROM light rail? Is irony totally lost on you?
