Six Miners Trapped In His Utah Mine: Owner Rips Environmentalists Over Global Warming

The Utah coal mine owner who's got six of his employees trapped 1,500 feet underground in a cave-in uses a news conference at the site to go off on environmentalists concerned about global warming.

I figure this "first-things-first" performance - - and a separate denunciation of AP and Fox News for false reporting - - will win him the 2007 Coal Operator of The Year award, for sure.

Global warming being caused by man is a myth. There are many scientist who are not paid by the oil companies who think it is over blown also. God forbid if someone speaks out against the misguided enviromental wacko's.

There are a few scientists who do not believe human activity contributes to climate change. 99.9% of the others have used their brains and computer models to come to the opposite conclusions.

Big oil and other major companies are operating a behind-the-scenes effort to deny climate change: Those are the wackos, to use your term.

And this coal mine operator should turn over the PR effort during this tragedy to professionals who wouldn't use their face time to rant against media and others in a totally off-note display.

Whatever, I read the newsweek article, what a joke. Their is a Scientist at the University of Wisconsin Madison who does not believe that man is causing global warming. I guess he is a wacko too. Where is your data to support that 99.9% of scientists believe that man is causing global warming and that we are headed toward a crisis? Give me a break Mr. Rowan and maybe you should use your brain and think for yourself. Why won't Mr. Gore debate any scientists that doubt his claims. Global warming is a farce just like global cooling was a farce in the 70's.

I have a brain Mr. Rowan and I doubt global warming is being caused by man. I have taken the time to hear BOTH sides of the issue, have you? Also, I am not being paid by the oil companies, which you seem to hate so much.

Also, their are more than a few scientist that dispute global warming. Get you facts straight. I am so sick of this crap.

That coal miner has every right to speak his mind. But I guess, since he denies global warming he should not be able to speak. Like Al Gore and the great Diane Fienstein, "the debate is over"

This is nothing more than a socialist movement to take money from the rich countries and distribute it to others.

The UN recently published a series of lengthy surveys of thousands of what are called peer-reviewed studies about global warming. The overwhelming consensus of these studies is that people (you say "man," but that leaves out 50.2% of the world's population) contribute to global warming.

Media have also carried numerous stories about warming that is causing glacial melt in mountainous regions that supply drinking and irrigation water below, in South America and elsewhere. Crises are coming; the time to plan to avert or minimize them is now. It's no different than rebuilding bridges so they don't fall; the MN collapse is a warning. So are the measurements that show warming oceans and melting glaciers.

You may not accept the UN as a credible organizer of this data, but the scientific media is filled with these studies. So you can go bury your head in the sand - - or you can use Google to find enough reading material to keep you busy for weeks.

That would be a better ue of your time than posting comments on this blog.

By the way: my last name is spelled Rowen. And "their" is a possessive pronoun. You meant "there is..."

You need to study more than climate change, so get cracking.

Hey - - I'm concerned about the greenhouse gases being pumped into the air by state-owned factories in China. So go fit that into your ideological straight-jacket.

We all have to breathe the same air. We're all in this together. It's one planet. There is a finite amount of fresh water on it. You can run, but you can't hide (well, I guess you can, behind that no-name sign in. Whatcha scared of?).

This isn't about socialism. It's about common sense.

My guess is that we're done here, Anonymous, so have a nice day.

The issues in THIS case isn't whether global warming is real, man made, a myth...The issue here is that as this guy (the OWNER) was speaking his political and economic viewpoints, HIS workers (real people) were trapped 1700 hundred feet below the surface with no real timeline of getting free. It is wrong wrong wrong for him or anyone at this moment to use this as a political opportunity. When they come out safely go ahead and state your case but until then he should focus 100% on getting them out safely. Hell, use the entire news conference to talk about what amazing people these guys are, talk about the struggles their families are going through...

I will have a nice day Mr. Rowen. I hope you have one also. This is about socialism, and you are the one with the ideological straight-jacket on (by the way I like that line :)).

Other than the prof at UW-Madison (he is the only 1 I ever found and I've tracked many down) I challenge you to find a scientist in the field who doubts global warming that isn't funded or associated with Big Oil in some way.

It is in fact the same organizations and people that big tobacco used to tell us smoking wasn't bad for us that are saying there's no global warming... I find that very interesting.

Are you really looking? I spent 1 minute looking and found scientist who are skeptical. How do you know that the scientists have ties to the oil companies? Because Newsweek says so?

To the last Anon:

I have made this into a separate post. That post has the link to the reproduced company documents.

Isnt the Union for Concerned Scientists an activist group? If you go to activistcash.com, you can see the history of that group.

James Rowen said...

To Mary: It is a very credible report by a very credible group. Read the report.

Again I implore to remember there are LIVES at risk here! We may be arguing over the dead bodies of trapped miners. Why don't you all keep a little perspective here.

James Rowen said...

That was my initial point.

anon> Because you can very easily google these "scientists" and find the links to Big Oil...
