Romney's Foolish Comment On The Rising Seas

At the end of his acceptance speech Thursday night, Mitt Romney mocked Barack Obama for his concern over rising seas:

Said Mitt:

President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet…My promise is to help you and your family.
Big laugh line. Big laugh from the floor.

But how funny is it tonight near New Orleans? Or to the north, where the flooding is headed?

Are the insurance companies laughing? With facts and science on their side, they've been warning against rising sea levels for years because they have billions and billions of dollars of property insured along threatened coastlines.

Rising seas, melting Arctic ice, extreme and changing weather, fires, drought, and crop losses are all related and are not getting too many chuckles from Central Wisconsin to the plains to fire-riven Colorado and Texas.

Romney can make fun of science, but the joke is lost on the rest of us.

The climate crisis scare is about as far from real science that you can get. A theory that promises heating and cooling, rain and drought, snow and fire, all at the same time is not science; it is a fraud, a fake and a hoax. The natural weather events cannot be changed by our human actions.

Although you are not able to open your mind enough to explore what science actually is, some of your readers (if you have any) who are actually interested in the science of climate change may find this video informative.

Thank you for pointing this out. For Romney to ignore an event that has affected his own party's convention this week, during the warmest summer on record, is one thing. But this was not just Mitt out of touch with reality as usual, it was a rather cruel joke. I found it offensive, and I'm sure many people that live in vulnerable areas did too. I guess Mitt hasn't been tuning in this week.

No, it's a theory. It's science. It's backed by over 160 years of work by thousands of scientists. It's just a little too complicated to be understood by idiots like you.

”President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans...."

This is a direct religious reference to the Republican audience about "King Canute ordering back the rise of the tide."
The gist of the story is that Great King Canute could not hold back what God had ordained - the rise and fall of the tides.
Therefore, according to this Romney parable, Obama believes he is more important than God, and is therefore doomed to failure.

The line got the biggest reaction from the floor of the RNC. This tells you where the Republican party is "leading" us.
"Neck Deep in the Big Muddy, and Damned Fool Says to Push On."
