Praise For Crooks Seeking Ethics Ruling

That's not an Onion headline; it's my hat tip to Wisconsin State Supreme Court Justice N. Patrick Crooks, who seems perturbed that fellow Justice Michael Gableman has escaped any sanction for running a campaign ad that twisted facts.

Gableman won a close election in 2008, defeating then-incumbent Justice Louis Butler, Jr, later nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as a federal judge.

Republicans continue to balk at a confirmation vote, leaving Butler in limbo.

Gableman defended the ad as free speech, but a split Court reach no conclusion and an ethics case against Gableman was set aside - - which Crooks has suggested perhaps being re-opened.

So why don't they they simply do the cloture vote?

All they need is one Republican to flip and it's not like it is all that hard to do with low hanging fruit like Snowe, Collins, or Brown.

They haven't done a cloture vote because they are protecting some Dems who don't want vote for this with an election in Nov.

Plus this way they can whine and moan about the it, a political win-win.
