Latest Legislative OWI Reform Evasion: It's Too Expensive

Legislators are being told we can't afford to modernize our OWI laws.

Too expensive, this mid-2oth century approach practiced most everwhere else.

Right: I guess those drunken driving funerals come at more afforable prices.

You're absolutely right. The estimated costs are not close to high enough to avoid reform. And plus, there are a lot of cheaper ways to create a more effective policy without, say, putting more people in prison.

Requiring more offenders to purchase ignition interlocks, and putting more cops on the roads, rather than sending them to bars to bust underage drinkers, would be a good start. And if the money is an issue, why not raise the fine for first offense?
