And in that spirit, I used a battery-operated lawnmower today for the first time. Glad to have stopped using gasoline and emitting pollutants.

I've read that running a gasoline-powered mower - - notoriously polluting because they do not have catalytic converters - - for an hour is like driving a 1992 automobile 650 miles.

Good, and join the group. I always disliked gas mowers for many reasons, from the noise to the smell to the danger of gas stored in or next to a house. The best thing to do is to have as little lawn to do as possible, so even a push mower is possible. I long ago learned to aim for the "twenty-minute mow." If it takes more time than that, including trips to the gas station, it's time to tear up more lawn and turn it into more garden. The obsession with Kentucky grass in our climate may make a yard look greener, but it's not thinking greener.

Thanks for the comment. We have taken out a lot of yard grass, turning space into flower, vegetable and raspberry gardens, and added trees and shrubs..
