"We're Broke" Wisconsin To Throw More Millions Into Another Highway Project

Not content to commit $1.7 billion to the Zoo Interchange, $350 million to the Hoan Bridge, $1 billion to another Interstate lane from Madison to Rockford,  and eventual completion of the $1.9 billion Interstate replacement and widening from Milwaukee to the Illinois border, Scott ("We're Broke") Walker wants to throw tens of millions into the conversion of State Highway 41 from Milwaukee to Green Bay to a wider Interstate-grade roadway.

All this road-building - - more lower-profile but expensive examples, here - - will further starve local governments of funding for pothole repairs and transit operations.

Another sop to the highway lobby, in the name of economic development, for our one-note, increasingly backward state.

And fascinating that the Walker spin-meisters and his allies in the legislature and the think-tank sector can sell this big-spending Governor as the champion of smaller government.
