How Chicago Discharges Its Overflow Information Responsibility

Media there like to report on how much rain fell by the gallon!, or here again, but try and find out how much sewerage system overflow by the gallon took place.

Good luck.

Buried in a pdf on the sewerage district's website is a number that suggests the big storm two weeks ago produced the second-heaviest overflow total volume there ever recorded: 6.5+ billion gallons.

The key data:

Reversals to Lake Michigan (1985 - Present)

Million Gallons

Date / O'Brien Lock CRCW Wilmette/ Total Volume

7/24/2010/ 5784.6/ 750.3 / 6534.9
