Soot Is More Dangerous Than First Thought

New data indicates that inhaling soot - - fine, invisible particulates found in industrial and other dirty emissions in the air even in nice weather - - carries twice the risk of pemature cardiovascular death than estimated earlier,  a study shows.

Some groups and media apologists have criticized the government for raising the clean air bar, but now we have a better idea why.

Tiny soot particales are killers.

We had a spate of warnings last fall and winter about elevated levels of soot in many Wisconsin counties.

Government's refining of clean air standards, using better science and technology, is exactly the kind of regulation that we want, and deserve.
