My Capital Times Op-Ed On The Oconomowoc OWI Crash

In my first op-ed put up by the new online Capital Times, I continue to argue that weak laws and sentencings contribute to the OWI carnage on Wisconsin highways.

Great post. I think your analogy of the gun is perfect. It seems to me getting ones car confiscated, and losing ones drivers license would also be motivators.

One commenter on CT stated if you think jail time will stop drunken driving you're wrong. That sort of misses the point, the purpose of jail in not deterrence, but protection of the community.

Correct. Jail doesn't stop a drinking 'lifetstyle,' but the immediacy of incarceration removes an irresponsible, convicted OWI offender from the road and protects the rest of us.
