Add walleye to Walker's WI climate disregards. Third term? Why?

[Updated from 7/1/18 - - Note also that leading mining booster GOP State Sen. Tom Tiffany asked a reliably-compliant Gov. Walker to cut through the budget the DNR scientists Tiffany felt were spending too much time on climate science.]

Earlier Sunday as I was writing the post below I had not noticed Paul A. Smith's report on the impact of warming temperatures on fish in Wisconsin's waterways - - Can the walleye population rebound?
Researchers say the reasons for the walleye decline aren't fully understood and are likely complex. But recent studies have shown a link between higher water temperatures and reduced production of walleyes, a cool-water fish.
And I'd completely missed this alarming report.
By 2040, less than 4% of Wisconsin lakes might have walleye, study predicts
But I'd already touched on the subject Sunday when I reposted this earlier blog item about Walker ignoring the impacts of climate change on Wisconsin, including its walleye and other fish species.

Fall is a good time to fish for walleye, as Alex Bentz shows with 30-inch walleye caught last week on the Wisconsin River.

Hat tip to Smith. He's the font.

My original blog was linked to a tweet an oblivious Walker posted showing Lake Mendota from his official residence, and includes this excerpt:
-----------------------------------------------------
 Jan 1 Beautiful sunset.

That's the UW-Madison campus across the lake, to the west.

You can't see it in the photo, of course, but on the campus shoreline sits a laboratory of an historic institution, the UW Limnology Center.
Limnology is the study of lakes; the science was basically founded on the UW Campus and Lake Mendota is often said to be the most-studied lake in the country.
Lake Mendota is not just your run-of-the-mill lake among Wisconsin's 15,000. It's is a huge, unique climate change laboratory where experts examine the lake's temperature, depth, fish population, responses to climate change and other features widely studied for more than the postcard-pretty photo opportunity Walker likes to snap:
Predicted water temperature growing degree days in three example Wisconsin lakes from current conditions to mid-century and late-century conditions based on projected climate change. Lakes will respond differently to climate change depending on their size, depth, water clarity, and starting temperatures, as demonstrated by the different trajectories of Lake Mendota, Green Lake, and Trout Lake.
And it was on the Limnology school's blog just over a year ago that UW professors blasted Walker's DNR for having scrubbed ciimate change data and science - - facts impacting Lake Mendota and other bodies of water in Wisconsin which Walker does not see or appreciate - - from official state websites:
* Warmer conditions, especially in winter, are dramatically reducing the duration of ice cover, giving ice fishers less time to fish.
* Deer hunters are finding less snow on the ground during the gun season.
* Many brook trout streams are threatened by a warming climate.
* In lakes, dominance by the cool water walleye is shifting to dominance by the warm water largemouth bass.
* Several popular game species, like the ruffed grouse, are shifting their ranges northward and becoming less abundant.
* Increases in extreme rain events are increasing runoff from farm fields into downstream waterways and lakes, reducing water quality.
* High temperatures worsen health-damaging smog (ozone). The hot summer of 2012 produced very high ozone levels, worsening asthma and harming crops.
* Some key forest trees are declining in a warming Wisconsin, and the season for timber harvesting is getting shorter.
* Several tree species are threatened as warming allows more pest insects and diseases to move north.

Trump to WI business, like dairy, lumber and more: Drop dead

Hey, Wisconsin farmers, growers, producers and consumers:

Trump blusters that his Canada, Mexico tariffs will stay.
Trump says he won’t sign any NAFTA deal until after midterms
President Trump said Sunday he is “not happy” with the revised NAFTA deal that his administration has been hammering out with Canada and Mexico and he doesn't want to sign any new agreement until after the midterm elections in November...But Trump has shown few signs of pulling back. Instead, he is calling for additional tariffs on China and on imported cars, a move that would hurt Europe, Japan and South Korea.
Because that's how best to confront barriers to the Canadian dairy market for small farmers already leading the nation in bankruptcies.

And to the weakling Walker, thanks for nothing.
Things are moving in reverse:
He talked to Trump about it on the phone, according to this report, and followed-up with the rare, triple-exclamation pointed Tweet:
Walker said he spoke with Trump Monday and Tuesday about the dairy crisis.
“It was great to talk to you this morning,” Walker told Trump on Twitter after the conversation. “Thanks for supporting WI dairy farmers!!!”
* Wait, there's more: Walker even signed a letter to Trump:
Walker issued a joint letter to Trump with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday. The move comes as 75 Wisconsin dairy farms won't have buyers for their milk beginning May 1st because of the restrictions.
* And issued a 'standing up for Wisconsin dairy farmers' news release detailing calls he'd made and assigned to others.

Remember - - Wisconsin now leads the nation in small farm bankruptcies.
As dairy crisis crushes farmers, Wisconsin's rural identity in jeopardy
And when Trump surprised Walker with even more harmful tariffs, Walker "respectfully" asked Trump to stop - - Trump added even more tariffs.
Not to mention Trump's continuing war against tariff-hammered Harley-Davidson, about which Walker, purportedly the governor of all of Wisconsin, has no interest.
“I think they are going to take a big hit,” he said. “The people that are buying Harley-Davidson, they don’t want it built in another country."
Because, you know, Foxconn, even downsized..

Jarchow lost his Senate run, still around to float weird attack on DNR

Freed by a special election defeat to speak his mind, WI State GOP Rep. and blue wave swamping victim Adam Jarchow takes to Twitter to tell us how he really feels about the DNR, and the drunken boating it is hoping to minimize this holiday weekend:
  1. Honestly, if we fired 3/4 of the bureaucrats, would we notice or would our life change at all? Maybe ... for the better! The useless non-sense that we waste money on with this agency, never ceases to amaze me.

  2. From harassing hunters, to small business owners, to property owners and now to law abiding citizens who may (gasp) enjoy a beer while boating, the is hellbent on destroying our economy (and fun). We must end the DNR and just start over.

  3. I know bureaucrats who live in Madison & get a taxpayer funded paycheck & pension have no idea how our economy works, but people visit Northern WI in the summer for the very purpose of having a couple beers and enjoying the water. Dismantle this useless agency!

  4. Paging Dan Meyer and ! The bozos who work for you at somehow believe it’s their job to tell Wisconsinites not to engage in a perfectly legal activity. Some bureaucrats just need to be fired. cc:

  5. . 🙄 WI DNR does lots of moronic things, but this may be the most moronic. Folks, it’s not illegal to drink a couple beers on your boat. Ignore these clowns. Please enjoy your weekend.
