Wisconsin GOP's breathtaking rebranding goes viral

The Wisconsin Republican Party has been on a long rebranding death march - from its founding as an anti-slavery party to a nationally-recognized Party of Voting Suppression - and also became The Pollution Party (a.k.a. the anti-conservation party) in the state which produced Earth Day Founder Gaylord Nelson - but its new and rapidly willful re-creation as The Disease Embracing Party

The political tragedy is that grotesque gerrymandering has solidified a GOP stranglehold on an electorate which needs democratization to bring about a needed reckoning nearly ten years in the making.

The imminent tragedy is that the GOP's intentional indifference and donor-fueled duty dereliction is killing jobs, hope and hundreds of people.

On Friday Wisconsin broke through the 4,000 new COVID-19 daily case barrier, yet it's been more than 180 days since the accountability-free GOP-led Legislature met for longer than a few seconds or passed any kind of bill, COVID-19-related or otherwise.

Why the delay - given that Wisconsin has less than 2% of the US population but with 4,000 new coronavirus cases has almost 7% of the the country's 60,000 - besides not wanting to do anything cooperate which might acknowledge Gov. Evers' election, even as red counties and communities are suffering alongside their Democratic neighbors?

Seems as if Republicans can't put Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald in a position which might lead to embarrassing questions about inactivity, or his windy, macho resistance to masking policies just as he's days away from punching his ticket to DC and joining Trump's most reliable Congressman, Glenn Grothman, at the even deeper Congressional trough which attracts some of Wisconsin's phoniest small government hypocrites.

  1. Not only donor fueled. From today's Milwaukee Journal: MADISON - Taxpayers have spent nearly $2 million this year on lawyers hired by Republican legislators to fight election lawsuits, including ones aimed at making voting easier during the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition, taxpayers have spent more than $400,000 on attorneys hired by Republicans to fight parts of Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ COVID-19 response plan.

So much for frugal small government!
