Saving historic Lake Park footbridge on meetings' agendas

Meetings devoted to saving an historic but deteriorating pedestrian bridge

connecting the north and south portions of Lake Park
and eventually reopening the road through the ravine below to make the park whole again begin Tuesday night in advance of eventual Milwaukee County Board action.

So check out the information on this website and get involved.
Historic Water Tower Neighborhood encourages members and other residents to attend an important public information meeting from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 19 on the future of Lake Park’s historic but deteriorating Ravine Road footbridge.
The meeting will take place at Lake Park’s Marcia Coles Community Room beneath Lake Park Bistro. Residents will get an update from the county at the meeting and be able to share their opinions on what should be done.
Few communities have a park designed by the famous Frederick Law Olmsted, and we'd be foolish to either demolish the bridge or replace it with a flat Interstate-style span that might be appropriate over I-94, but would detract from the beauty and history of one of Milwaukee's signature public spaces.

A related thought: Stop wasting money to rebuild a dam which blocks the Milwaukee River's restoration downstream and use the money to restore the Lake Park bridge.

Two restorations in one.

  1. Ahhhh... Who hasn't strolled across that bridge after hoisting a few local brews and pee'd over the railing. It would be a shame if they replace that bridge.
